We ask for your support in sequencing the Genome of the Puerto Rican Parrot (Amazona vittata) . This is a great opportunity to bring science in PR to the forefront of the genome research. It is also a great technological advance that will help to save one of the rarest birds in the world. Finally, it is a great educational opportunity for the students of UPRM and to the general public. With time, we will try to get funds to develop this project: to maintain and to enrich the genome database, to study variation in the populations, the relation to other parrots to the world, finding genetic differences that make these parrots unique, and to teach our students the advanced technology of Genomics and Bioinformatics.

We will be organizing a series of fundraisers to collect private funds, because we believe that this investigation should be supported by the people and businesses of Puerto Rico. We ask you to help us to organize and to support our fundraising efforts.

Please donate to one of our projects.  You can write in any amount, anything will help.  Once you are on PayPal site, you can pay with any credit card.

Donations to our lab are handled by the PRSF Corp and are tax free in Puerto Rico.

For each $25 you donate, we will send you a small parrot poster on paper as a thank you gift.

For each $100 you donate, we will send you a large parrot poster on canvas as a thank you gift (limited quantities).

Please indicate your mailing address so we can send you the posters as soon as possible.
